A large turnout of the band for the Remembrance Sunday Parade...

Sunday 10th November 2002 saw one of the best turnouts of the Lerwick Pipe Band this year with 20 pipers and drummers turned out for the annual Remembrance Sunday parade in Lerwick.  On what can only be described as a cold, blustery, wet day, the band set off from the Royal British Legion in Lerwick at 10am for the march to Fort Charlotte.  This parade is important to the band, as a mark of respect and show of support for the Royal British Legion in Lerwick, the band tries to turn out as many members as possible for this event.

The  band set off to the Fort leading the parade with a selection of 2/4 marches, from the fort it was then a short march and time to play a short set on the way to the War Memorial.

As 11am approached, the weather took a turn for the worse, and everyone present started to get wet in the rain.  The constant wind also made for an uncomfortable time.  After the two minute silence, and a rendition of "Flowers of the Forest" by Piper Angus Stalker, members of the Lerwick Brass Band then led the parade to St. Columba's church in Lerwick for the service of remembrance.

At 12.30 after church, the Pipe Band then proceeded to lead the parade with a selection of 6/8 marches back to the British Legion in Lerwick , where soup, sandwiches and a "wee warming whisky" were gratefully received by the then freezing members  of the parade.

Overall for the band, the event was largely a success with a good standard of playing, Drum Sergeant Dougie Wiseman even tried to show us his baton twirling skills by dropping a stick while keeping time on the march between tunes!

Finally at the British Legion, the members of the Lerwick Pipe Band were once again presented with a cheque for £1000.00 by the Royal British Legion Lerwick to assist with running costs, this show of support is yet again gratefully received by the Band.
